What it takes to bring the A²MEND Student Charter model to your campus.

Under the auspice and affiliation of the African-American Male Education Network and Development (A²MEND), the A²MEND Student Charter is a student support structure that establishes an affirming environment where African American male students and other men of color are able to thrive. The aim of the charter is to improve academic success and to develop culturally competent servant student leaders. Charters run educational, cultural, social and intellectual programs that build positivity and brotherhood among their members.

Starting a charter takes three things: an advisor willing to commit, students ready to lead, and institutional backing. High schools charter on the same terms as colleges.

The network now runs to 63 charters — across California community colleges and universities, California high schools, and campuses nationwide — with over 600 students actively engaged. Every campus is listed in the Charter Directory.
