Dr. Walter C. Jones is a retired higher education administrator whose career spanned more than 25 years across both community college and university systems. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from California State University, Northridge, a Master of Arts in Education (Teaching and Curriculum) from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of California, Los Angeles, where his research focused on the role of family in college selection for underrepresented students.
Throughout his career, Dr. Jones held numerous leadership roles, including Dean of Academic Affairs (General Education & Transfer) at West Los Angeles College. A founding member and past president of the African American Male Education Network & Development (A²MEND), he was widely recognized for his mentorship of Black male students and his advocacy for equity in education. His efforts earned him the UCLA Educational Leadership Program’s “Hero Award” in 2018.
Dr. Jones also contributed to statewide leadership as a board member of the Association of California Community College Administrators (ACCCA) and the CSU Dominguez Hills Alumni Advisory Board, as well as serving as a mentor with the San Gabriel/Foothill Association of Community Colleges (SanFACC). A member of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities’ Millennium Leadership Institute Class of 2006, he is also a published writer and poet. Dr. Jones and his wife, Trish, have been married for over two decades and share three children—Brandon, Jade, and Jennifer.
