Africa Study Abroad
Since 2018, student mentees have journeyed to their ancestors' home in Africa for a life-changing experience.
Over the past decade, A²MEND executive Board Members have accompanied student mentees to various African countries – from Egypt to Ghana – as part of our Africa Study Abroad Program. The annual excursion enables students to explore the home of their ancestors, fortifying them with a stronger sense of cultural identity.
Participants explore museums, monuments, the Great Pyramids, the Great Sphinx, ancient cultures, vibrant cities, rural villages, and the sobering history of the transatlantic slave trade. The experience has been described as life-changing and deeply impactful.
The student journey runs alongside A²MEND’s educator work on the continent through the All African Diaspora Educators Summit, which has taken more than 1,000 people to Africa.
Students travel through the A²MEND Leadership Academy, which is where applications are made.
